Homemade BBQ Sauce and Turkey Burgers (with the BBQ inside and outside the burger!)

Homemade BBQ Sauce
Yield: 1 cup
Ingredients
2 tablespoon avocado oil 1 small yellow onion, chopped (1⁄2 cup)
1 clove garlic, minced
1⁄2 teaspoon sea salt 1⁄4 teaspoon red pepper flakes 1 teaspoon chili powder 3⁄4 cup balsamic vinegar 1⁄4 cup water 1⁄3 cup apricot preserves 1 tablespoon Worcestershire 2 tablespoon Dijon mustard 2 tablespoons tomato paste
Instructions
Heat oil over medium-low heat. Add onion and cook for 5 minutes. Add garlic and spices; cook for one minute more. Add remaining ingredients and simmer on low heat for approximately 20 minutes or until reduced by one-third.
If you like a smooth BBQ sauce, cool the mixture slightly and blend with an immersion blender. Store in the refrigerator until ready to use.
Turkey Burgers
Makes 4 Burgers; or 8 Sliders
Ingredients
1 1⁄4 pounds ground turkey (dark meat)
1 jalapeno, seeded and minced 1 clove garlic, minced 3 tablespoons BBQ sauce
1⁄2 cup grated cheese (Cheddar or Gruyere)
2 tablespoons dried plain breadcrumbs 1⁄2 teaspoon garlic powder 1⁄2 teaspoon onion powder 1⁄2 teaspoon sea salt 1⁄2 teaspoon ground black pepper 1 tablespoon avocado oil, for cooking
Directions
Place all ingredients in a large mixing bowl. Gently mix and form into 4 uniform patties.
Place oil in a cast iron pan that’s been preheated for about 3 minutes on medium heat. Sear burgers for 3-4 minutes per side. Instant read thermometer should read 165 degrees.
